Our 50th anniversary started with a
warm and very vibrant welcoming party on Wednesday 24th of May. Old friends met
again, greeting and making new ones for life. This was just the beginning of an
exotic week in the Amazon jungle. The oldest table of the America’s and
Caribbean region showed that she still knows how to do it. The food was
exceptional, the laughter hilarious and the company unsurpassed. Tablers whose
ancestors came from very different continents and cultural backgrounds centuries
ago, melted together in “De Surinaamse Tafelronde Paramaribo 1” and were
responsible for an atmosphere identical to the international table spirit.
This
cultural diversity was demonstrated on the 25th with a supreme mixture of music
and dance from the different cultures of Suriname harmoniously blended in a
thrilling performance.
The actual party was on the 26th of May remembering the
day when we were chartered 50 years ago in Versailles, France. An AGM from the
heart, among friends with a lot of emotional speeches was the spontaneous theme
for the day. Astonishment introduced the words but, but, but…….

The gala with
banner night was held at the Presidential palace once again in the presence of
the exceptional Suriname cuisine.

The aftermath of this great day took place in
the middle of the jungle in a hammock besides the barbeque grill, on a beach
like riverbank while the table family was enjoying, chats, boat rides,
ballgames, sailing and fishing.
The formal closure on Sunday’s brunch at the
home of the newly elected president of our table was very well attended despite
several rain showers and the opportunity was ceased to initiate the informal
program for the remainder of the stay of our valued guests.
